The thrill is in the chase - not the capture.
Is it me or after spending weeks hunting a specific title, when you finally reach it. You have 2 - 5 minutes of excitement, then sorta give out a little *sigh* and put the laptop down for next few hours until you have a genius scheme too hunt another one. I mean, I feel as if I'm doing this for the sake of it! Am I alone?![

You're obviously not playing the game right. If you are going for a title just for the sake of having a title you are wasting your time. It should be enjoyable, not feel like a chore. Thats why ive never wasted my time on titles i find all but pleasurable(like cartog).
That 2-5min of enjoyment should be coming after every mission you finish, or vanq you complete, etc. And if its not, then you should not be playing guildwars.

LOL I SO recognise this. I have 49/50 HOM and 10 medals sitting in storage for the last oppressor weapon needed to get 50/50.But I have all the weapons I need, and kinda lost interest in it lol. Well i could maybe find a never used hero on a rarely used char to put it on, but it kinda feels less important.
My pleasure of the game is to logon and splat some monsters now and then, or join when my alliance arranges a trip to deep, doa, dungeons etc.

Yeah if your worried about HoM take it slow, you got 7+months at the best before GW2 comes out, so no need to rush it and ruin it

not for me, when I get my titles I am happy for quite some time since I know the amount of time and effort that went into getting them---and I let my characters show those titles for as long as they wish (think my monk is still showing his drunkard title which he finished back at halloween).

For some titles, maybe. For lucky/unlucky, sweet tooth, drunkard, party animal, last 1% on cartography, reputation, LDOA ...it's definitely not the "chase".
For missions/skill cap/VQ/survivor/FoW/UW/SF/Deep/Urgoz sometimes yes sometimes no.

Yeah. Master of the North, Protector, Vanquisher, Cartographer... those are fun.
For the Eye of the North ones you can fill books while playing normally.
But the account-wide ones... ouch...

I'm currently doing Luxon as my last title for GWAMM, I'm gaining the faction by playing FA with my guild when they're around and MQSCing with PUGs when they're not. The FAing is really fun but pretty slow, the MQSC is fast but mind numbingly boring. I think VQing is probably the most fun I've had while title hunting, you can just bounce around completely different areas one after another, I don't think it gets tedious at all.

I'm still a noob, but sometimes when I think about why I play computer games, I think about the Tibetan Buddhist sand paintings. Monks spend days constructing paintings from different colors of sand, then sweep them away with their hand in an instant. Maybe gaming is like that, where we take the process seriously but it's still an ephemeral thing.

Had the titles been designed well they might have been fun to complete but they are mostly garbage grind based lazy game design titles. Consumable and reputation titles are the perfect example of this.
Personally the only titles I enjoy are the mission based ones because those are fun gameplay objectives to complete, aside from survivor the old school way which is also fun. Things like vanquishing are more like a grind than a challenge, they usually involve organising your team into a super streamlined cookie cutter monster bashing tank that can c space the entire game.
This is why the Hall of Monuments was so perfectly designed: if you chased the titles you had a decent foothold to reward you in GW2 but if you were a normal player who just completed normal objectives here and there, you can still easily reach 30 HoM points. I can't express how happy I was with the design of the HoM and the person who very sensibly and reasonably made sure achieving 30 points was outside the realm of grind based monotony.

I don't grind any titles. I've just been playing the game. For 4 years. 12/50 right now. I haven't even started Nightfall. I could probably start and finish it in a weekend easily. Hell probably in a single day. But I've been busy playing with various builds trying new ways (well, new to me anyway) to kill Aatxes and Smites in the Underworld.
For me, it's not the chase, or the capture. It's the experience.

An odd argument, you state survivor is fun doing it the "hard way", I assume you mean not using Kilroy's or Kath Hammers which is fair enough, doing lots of titles the less efficient way is more fun. But then you go on to criticise VQ because everyone does it cookie-cutter-way. You realise the exact same argument applies here as the one you used for survivor? You could do it the more efficient but less fun way or you could do it by carefully crafting the perfect build for each area which would be more rewarding than just rolling everything with Spiritway.
You don't have to do any title one particular way, except LDoA, everyone can tailor their experience to suit their preferences.

Tbh, I'm doing yet another attempt to get my treasure hunter title up a bit again (~5,000 now) and tbh, the only reason I am doing so is the drops. Well, that and there is not much more for me to do.. But, the chase can be dull and boring, but I can assure you, nothing is as exciting as the capture of an awesome shield..

As I just surpassed 9100 minutes drunk, this capture will be more than the chase for me. My last few chest runs have been giving me 3+ chests per lockpick, and 2 golds per 5 chests, so perhaps a couple of days of chest runs.
The blizzard going on outside will have me stuck in house next couple of days, so 10 to12 hours of play will help replenish my gold stash a bit.
The chase is on!! Ask me about captures later.
